This week, Somer talks about the first work of famed realist author, Gustave Flaubert. Madame Bovary is held in high regard, even today and is a beautiful depiction of a complicated woman in literature.

NOTE: This episode has been deleted and recast with better audio quality in Episode 89.

Show Notes

In the episode, I reference a single movie made in 2014, but upon further inspection, IMDB tells me that there are 39 results for Madame Bovary!  Studio movies, made-for-TV-movies, and television shows!  Take a look at this link and observe the veritable buffet of Bovary!

Here are my two copies of Madame Bovary.  The newer one on the left is published by Penguin Books and the translation is done by Geoffrey Wall.  The older one on the right is published by  The Modern Library and is translated by Eleanor Marx Aveling.  Notice this photo is cat-free.  Don’t get used to that!
